All american episodes season 411/4/2023 I didn't think it would be airing right after Adam Toledo's murder. "I never imagined it would be airing right after the Derek Chauvin trial. "I never in a million years thought that this episode would be airing days after another young Black teen was murdered at the hands of a cop," Okoro Carroll continued. Let's desperately hope that, if the topic is covered again in season four, it doesn't have the same disturbing timing. I try not to be disheartened by that and I try to put the authentic truth of that in the show, because we pride ourselves on these characters authentically portraying what it's like to be youth, and specifically Black youth, in America nowadays. It seems like nothing seems to make a difference sometimes. "You hope what you're doing is making a difference, and my goal for this episode was that hopefully it would lead to people understanding the pain and that we're at the point where enough is enough," Okoro Carroll said at the time (via Entertainment Weekly). You can also expect showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll to continue to cover other real-life issues, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, which was given a special episode in season three. It's likely whatever happens, we'll be heading towards that next major stop. In real life, Spencer Paysinger – who the lead character is based on – went on to play college football in Oregon. But after his involvement with the trophy heist, and his refusal to snitch on any of the other players, that is not going to be easy. With graduation getting closer by the day, the second half of season four will follow Spencer as he tries to finish high school relatively unscathed. So we're grateful, to say the least." All American season 4 plot: What will happen? I think it's great that people kind of are able to choose and luckily they've chosen us. No one cares about being told what to watch. And I feel like right now, and this is just me speculating, but people are going for exactly what they want. I think the diversity aspect plays a part. "I think the cast is tremendously talented. I think the pandemic played a part, people being stuck at home looking for really great television. "I think it's just where we are today as a culture, where we are today creatively. So that definitely has been helping me out."Īnd Diggs has a pretty solid theory about why the show’s been so successful. And then for him also to see me in that role, it just adds to our relationship because, as people can imagine, it's hard to stay cool when you've got cool kids. "It just seemed like the universe was kind of setting me up because, with my son being as athletic as he is, it just added a cherry on top when we were able to watch a program like this, the subject matter. He asks her what that means for their relationship."One of the main reasons I even took the role was because I had never even thought about playing a coach, even though I've loved watching these sports movies and I've watched so many of them with my son," Diggs said (via PopCulture).
